Some CAD CAM Designs that were not put into production

One for Sale, One we can't sell

Not every design went into production. Of these two cases, The one produced by us is for sale. The other was designed to the customers specifications and then rejected by them, only to be sold in almost exactly the same design idea but produced using another technique.

Moulin Rouge

Design FOR SALE
Moulin Rouge Pen
© Copyright David Pledge 2000, All Rights Reserved
This pen was produced under the brief "Moulin Rouge", around the time that the successful film of the same name was released. Unfortunately, the customer decided in a change of mind after a change of ownership that the depiction of exotic dancers was not appropriate for their market.

However, a second chance has come to take advantage of this design, with the release of a new film, which has a similar theme, in this case based on the story of the famous Windmill Theatre in London. The film is set to be a box office hit, so it presents a considerable business opportunity!

We have one customer who has expressed an interest in this design but they haven't yet committed to buy it, so it is still for sale. Cost of the CAD work is approximately £6,500 UKP with a production unit cost of about £17 UKP per pen, so a run of £1,000 would work out at £23.50 UKP per pen, as at 2006 price.

Gold Rush

Gold Rush Pen
This pen was produced by us to the customer's design, so we are not able to sell the design. The customer decided at the last minute to change the method of production and use a different technique with the same basic design layout. Cost of the CAD design work was £7,200 UKP, incomplete, as we would have made a number of improvements on this sample had the customer gone ahead with it.

The design is a good example of how a pictorial subject can be treated and also how such historical design briefs can be turned into a low relief image.
