Introduction to CAD CAM Engine Turning

CAD CAM Image of a tenerife rose, combined from a photograph of the flower with the leaves drawn in by hand in the 3D CAD system. This was a silver disc inset into the box of the York and Lancaster pens we produced, commemorating the English wars of the roses. The production version was not enamelled; this disc was a reject that we enamelled as an experiment. The error can be seen lower right near the edge of the leaf in the enlarged view. Our CAD/CAM system is the most advanced of it's kind in the world, capable of reproducing any engine turned pattern that has ever been created as well as a vast array of work that cannot be done on any other system.

When we began the development we gave ourselves the greatest possible freedom by creating our own definition of the engine turning process as a design medium for metal surfaces. The only thing we stipulated was that we would generally use fixed tools to cut lines that followed surfaces at a controlled depth which could vary during the cut.

We did have a few major advantages from the start as a result of the aviation and programming interests of one of our proprietors. We also had, as a consultant, one of the World's best software engineers writing for the international aviation industry who is also a fellow pilot and friend.

The result is a new interpretation of the engine turning process encompassing everything that has ever been done before and allowing a new freedom of design unencumbered by fixed technological and hardware limits. The software answers all wish lists, the hardware is modular and infinitely expandable as requests are received.

The greatest advance, and one that has not been copied since we invented it, has been our surface generation technology that allows us to create low relief surfaces with incredible control and accuracy.

As a specialist firm at the very top of our trade we offer a unique opportunity to established manufacturers even if they already have in-house engine turning because of our unconventional fresh approach to the process as well as our unique technology. We are able to provide quality and design possibilities that you will be unable to obtain either in-house or from any other supplier.

However: If your production is extensive, perhaps far away from us in China, then we can lease our technology to work in your own factory. For the largest volume manufacturers this is the right choice. More Information is here about buying our technology.

N.B. The extensive illustrations of CAD CAM engine turning in this section of The Illustrated Engine Turning Reference™ are nearly all unfinished articles, unpolished, as they would leave our factory unit to be assembled by the customer. There are also some examples, where we still own the copyright, that are designs which we can adapt if necessary and sell to you for use on your products.
