The Americas Cup Pen

The pen designed by David Pledge to celebrate the Americas Cup Competition for Montegrappa.

" When I was told about the design brief, the first thing I did was call Garrards, the Crown Jewellers, one of my oldest customers, and ask for a copy of the plans as it was they who made the original cup in 18?? (sorry, I am no good with dates). My friends there had a quick check and informed me that there were no drawings in their possession! So I obtained as many photographs of the cup as I could and set to work on this pen, created in the spirit of the design and using many elements from the cup itself, which was rich in decoration. "

Producing the CAD drawing cost about £5,000. Unit price was set for approx 1,000 pieces at just over £29 UKP in April 2005, when the price was last updated. This pen was very successful in the market.
