CAD CAM Design for The Grand Masters®

Emotion Monaco

The Grand Masters® is a most unusual brand among the international luxury goods industry in that it was founded by people who are practitioners of their arts and crafts, each of World class reputation, at the very pinnacle of their specialisation, but who individually choose to remain discreetly anonymous. These are people who put their very soul into their products. Pledge & Aldworth have supplied these people for many years and we can be justifiably proud of the work that we have done with them over a long period, producing many important Objets d'Art as well as luxury goods such as these pens.

E M Cap Emotion Monaco
A cap from the "Classic" pen, prior to polishing. An edition of 777 pens in silver retailing at approximately £1,700 UKP each.

" The quality of the tapered tubes was better than anything I have seen before from any other of the 3,000 plus manufacturers we have supplied over the past quarter of a century or so. I believe they have developed a secret process to make very consistent tapered tube. Their exceptionally stringent demands on the CAD CAM engine turning process also raised our capability to standards we had never before achieved. "

This piece is an excellent example of recessing and low relief at very high definition. We used more than twice the normal number of cuts for this depth of enamel to achieve a really high quality without worrying too much about the cost.

A prototype cap

Test Cap A silver prototype cap for what was eventually one of the gold versions of the Emotion Monaco Fountain Pen Range. This piece was used to test the production program before we ran the gold tubes, to avoid wasting precious metal if anything went wrong during the setting up for production.

The CAd CAM system has been used here to additionally locate the slot for the pen clip. This will ensure that the clip exactly centres on the pattern.

Engine Turning of this tube would cost about £20 UKP each. The 18ct gold pens retail from about £9,000 UKP to upwards of £25,000 UKP in editions of 10, 17, 80 and 117 for each version.
