The elegance of applied Geometry

Islamic art lends itself particularly well to the engine turning design medium. The extensive use of geometrical motifs suits a mechanical design medium such as engine turning. Indeed, a graphic artist working on paper would use drawing instruments to assist his work in this style, and our engraving medium uses precisely the equivalent in the engine turning machine, "engraving with a ruler".

The ability of the low relief engine turning process, much assisted by CAD CAM, to easily produce text in any script is of particular value with work in this style.
