From Book Pages to Tyre Treads
OK you've probably seen the Rolls Royce key we cut the blank for, and the sheet scored for a box, but did you know that we also gap out the hinges for big boxes with a round nosed tool? Here are a some other unexpected items and ways of using engine turning! Maybe you can think of a few more... we hope so!

A large book box in silver, 14 inches high. An engine turning machine is the logical method for cutting the pages to look real.

We also cut the cover and spine to represent a traditional leather binding effect. This box was just within the limits of a 14 inch straight line machine. More details on size and other limits are in the technical Reference.

A 6 inch ruler in 18ct, Bevelled, fluted and marked with metric and imperial divisions.

Using a straight line engine turning machine rather like a planing machine to trim a cast 9ct cube true.

A pattern sample being cut for a picture frame. The original brief had specified a fully pavé set surface but price constraints initiated a search for a more economical alternative. Our suggestion was this pattern of double zig zag lines crossed to give low lozenge shaped pyramids. The top of each pyramid was opened up and cut into a tiny concave pyramid for setting a very small diamond with a grain at each corner. This left a good deal of metal between each stone but presented a very attractive design.

A sample for an 18ct gazebo with a roof like a pagoda with tiles engine turned in the appropriate style. We have used similar techniques to produce such things as fish scales, paving stones and bricks, louvres, radiator grills and numerous other items for gold and silver models.

The knurling on a clock setting button being cut on an engine turning machine instead of knurled, giving a much better quality result with clean bright cuts.
